Q. What does "Mending the Hoop of the People" mean?
A.  In the period that Ana spent on the reservation, she had a vision one day. She saw herself standing, as rainbows were radiating from her hands and feet, going around the planet and through and around her body. She was surrounded by the sun, the moon and stars. In search for the meaning of this vision, she read about Black Elk, a healer and medicine man of the Oglala Lakota (Sioux), whose life mission was to protect the sacred hoop of his people. He described the spiritual bereftness he saw around him as "The Rainbow Hoop of the People has been broken". The Rainbow Hoop means people living harmoniously just as the colors of the rainbow lie side by side. Ana was then able to articulate the vision she had, and took on as her Spirit's pledge to do her part in "Mending the Hoop of the People". She gave form to this pledge through the creation of Forrest Yoga and carrying her Spirit's pledge as the mission of Forrest Yoga: to create in each of us a sense of freedom, a connection to our Spirit and the courage to walk as our Spirit dictates, and thus enable us to do our part in Mending the Hoop of the People.

Q. What makes the asana practice of Forrest Yoga different from other styles of yoga?
A. There are many aspects that make Forrest Yoga different from all other styles of yoga. A few are mentioned here. But to fully experience the beauty, power and uniqueness of the Forrest Yoga practice, we suggest that you explore the Teachers' Directory to find a Forrest Yoga teacher in your neighborhood, take a class with Ana (see events tab on this website), order a Forrest Yoga DVD from our online store or download one of her MP3's here online!
Forrest Yoga embodies in it a strong emphasis on physical, mental, and emotional healing. Forrest Yoga teaches you to ride your breath to go deeper into the layers of your physical, mental and emotional body. One of Forrest Yoga's basic moves is releasing tension in the neck, which clears the paths for the intelligence of our brain to communicate with the wisdom of our body. Forrest Yoga sequencing includes unique abdominal exercises, created by Ana Forrest, that help you build core strength for your entire body, heal back pain, and move stuck energy, all of which allows you to move through your life with power and grace. Forrest Yoga teaches you to breathe skillfully and to use the breath, your life force, to sharpen your focus, enhance your awareness, cleanse every cell in your body and juice up! Forrest Yoga is an intelligent system that allows for you to experience a physiologically sensible practice, to safely and effectively heal from an injury and to release tension and bring aliveness and new energy to every part of the body. Our teachers are trained to give you compassionate hands-on assists that help you breathe better, support and enhance your practice, and to organically go deeper.
