PROGRAM DESIGN
Morning Chanting and Meditation

Each morning prior to the Forrest Yoga Intensive, Ana will lead chanting, drumming, and sitting meditation in a ceremony to set the intent for the day and create the space for healing and connection to your spirit.

Daily Yoga Intensives

The daily Forrest Yoga Intensives with Ana and her teaching assistants will create a heightened sense of physical, emotional and spiritual awareness while challenging every muscle and cell in your body. Through a carefully constructed and rigorous Forrest Yoga series of asanas, Ana will open you to amazing depths and feelings of awareness. You will leave feeling cleansed, refreshed and alive. The intensives are a sanctuary where you can feel safe enough to open up, work through issues that may arise and go beyond your perceived limitations. You will learn about yourself and feel what it is like to have freedom in your own body and mind. The intensives are sure to bring each trainee to new levels within their yoga practice. Injuries are addressed so that each trainee experiences these classes as part of his or her own healing practice.

Afternoon Training & Instruction sessions (Ana Forrest)

Daily five to six hour sessions of training and instruction comprise the afternoon portion of the course. Working from a comprehensive manual of over 300 pages, distilled from Ana's 30+ years of experience, trainees begin practice teaching on the first day - initially in small groups, eventually teaching beginning-level yoga students during the "Intro to Forrest Yoga" workshop. These skill-building exercises help trainees master the essential elements of teaching, such as: class sequencing, seeing and understanding physical structure and energy, the use of safe and effective hands-on adjustments, communication by verbal and non-verbal means, effective use of class dialogue and tone of voice as well as the continued development of a more engaging presence and self-awareness in your class. Two weekend workshops titled, an Introduction to Forrest Yoga, are offered to the public. Trainees team teach these workshops, rotating between teaching class, assisting and adjusting under Anaŭs supervision. These workshops are videotaped for review. This hands-on experience leads to informative feedback for trainees as they develop their teaching style and skills, regardless of their teaching experience.

Functional Anatomy for Yoga Teachers (Ellen Heed)
This 20 hour anatomy intensive is highly experiential that combines anatomical instruction with an emphasis on sharpening each teacher's perceptual skills to better assess the needs of their students in the environment of a yoga class.

The art of assessment is a life-long process by which a yoga teacher gains mastery and depth as an instructor. Learn some of the short-cuts to assessment in this fun and highly informative class about the interrelationship of the Rule of Four: Biomechanics, Biochemistry, Scar Tissue, and Emotional Blockage. These four elements define the healing process for us and for our students. As yoga teachers, we are in a unique position to streamline that healing process by learning to perceive each aspect of the Rule of Four. This is our governing principle as we learn the anatomy of the human structure and tie it together with practical information to speed healing when possible and explain why when it is not appropriate to hurry it.

In this class, you will learn to perceive:
-- How our Emotional Blockage expresses itself as posture and postural deviation.
-- How our Scar Tissue affects flexibility, even at a distance from an injury.
-- How genetics influences our Biomechanics and how to tell when it doesn't.
-- How our Biochemistry (for better of for worse) can determine the pleasure of our practice.

WHAT MAKES THIS TRAINING SO EFFECTIVE?

This training is experiential, focused, and a culmination of over 30 years of Anaŭs experience. From the first day, you begin your journey delving deeper into your own practice during the morning intensives, a process to further connect you to your authentic voice. Your are there to learn to teach, so from the first outset, you teach. First you teach each other, and then you have the opportunity to teach students under the supervision of Ana. You will be videotaped and review, over the course of two separate weekends. This process is an incredibly powerful learning technique. You will see firsthand how you are teaching and if your words and actions are congruent and clear. Video review is an extremely effective learning tool, allowing great strides in communication, body language and instruction to be made in a short amount of time.

The Forrest Yoga Teacher Training program, due to its experiential nature, employs a myriad of group processes so that trainees may absorb the course material in a permanent way. Group forums are utilized for philosophical inquiries into ethics, boundaries and teaching integrity; while small group sessions with each instructor are used to practice sequencing, teaching and provide feedback. Based upon the principles of the Native American talking circle, "Opening Circles" also provide opportunities for trainees to come together to share their feelings, struggles, victories and overall experiences with the program. It is also an occasion to learn to speak your truth and listen open-heartedly, without judgment to each others' truths.

Trainees receive a comprehensive, 300 page Teacher manual that includes material relating to: postures, adjustments, sequencing, injuries, lesson plans, healing, nutrition and more. The manual is a substantial and detailed resource for trainees to use both during and after the training. It includes several of Ana's articles as well as material she has written exclusively for the Teacher Training course. Upon successful completion of the teaching program, the manual will be yours to take home.

You will also receive two other manuals, one for Anatomy and one for the Business course. Both these publication are for deeper illustration of the concepts presented and an addition to your yoga reference library.

CURRICULUM THEMES
Yoga as a Healing Path

Ana is a pioneer in the practice of using yoga to transform physical and emotional pain into a journey toward freedom and healing. Her methods, which include the modification and creation of poses to address an individual's specific needs, have helped thousands of students heal from injuries to muscles, discs and organs. Through 30+ years of teaching, Ana has observed that in addition to physical injuries, many people harbor emotional traumas within their body, a philosophy that has become embedded in her teachings. These emotional traumas root themselves in the cell tissue, most often in weakened or neglected body parts and injuries. Ana's methods of healing help students work through deep emotional issues such as recovery from depression, eating disorders, substance abuse and addiction, as well as physical, emotional or sexual abuse and trauma. The Forrest Yoga Teacher training program safely addresses these topics through individual and group process work, journaling, breath and asana (yoga postures). Through practical discovery and group processes this course will address both the physical and emotional body, your limits will be tested, emotions will surface and new information, tools and skills will be integrated. Due to the nature of this course we suggest all students work with a therapist outside of the program in order to help process any issues that may arise during the training. This may simply be a regular telephone session or you may wish to set up regular sessions with either your or one of our therapists on the referral list.

Our goal is to teach you the tools necessary to take control of your life and rid your cells of unwanted pain and trauma ushering in true freedom so that you may bring the same healing to your students. In achieving this goal we will be doing our part in mending the hoop of the people while preparing each trainee to do their part.

Walking the Path of Your Spirit

The aim of the training is to guide each trainee into a greater understanding of their own challenges, both in their yoga practice and in their everyday life. This awareness is a vital component when developing the skills necessary to teach from the truths that are discovered rather than from one's dogma. Teaching authentically is much more effective and compelling for both yourself and your students. Through meditation, deep introspection and intense daily yoga practice trainees can discover the voice of their own spirit, which leads to a truly authentic life path. Trainees will be encouraged and empowered to develop as both individuals and as future teachers. Ana and her assistant teachers mirror the compassion, introspection and self-awareness necessary to teach yoga in this profound way empowering you to learn these tools through your own experience.

Teaching through Discovery

The art of teaching yoga requires sensitivity, compassion and practice. A teacher must encourage, inspire and address the needs of the individual as well as those of the group. The Forrest Yoga Teacher Training Program is a distillation of Ana's 30+ years of dedicated practice and teaching of yoga. Through a tightly woven circle of teaching modalities including: lecture, videotaping, group circles, practice teaching and partner work trainees will participate in a wide variety of teaching activities where learning is achieved through the discovery of experiential knowledge. The course is designed for trainees to learn the principles of: alignment, class sequencing, working with injuries and energy, modifying yoga postures to address an individual's needs as well as teaching private, beginning and level 2 classes. The curriculum creates opportunities for each trainee to: teach beginning level students, teach unsupervised in the community, see and diagnose injuries and energy as well as the proper use of touch and adjustments to maximize your impact as a teacher. The format of this course encourages trainees to discover their own wisdom while offering guidance so that one can effectively convey this wisdom when teaching.

Self Study

Self study is an essential component of this training program. Each trainee will be exposed to a diverse selection of carefully chosen books to fuel introspection and deepen their own study of yoga. This supplementary reading list will be provided upon receipt of your acceptance and final payment into the course. The list includes various books (and passages from books) relating to: yoga, medicine, healing, diet and nutrition, communication, quantum physics, personal empowerment and anatomy. These assigned readings complement, enrich and complete the program's curriculum.

Continuing Education

The skills required for excellence in teaching are developed over many years of study and practice. Thus, every trainee has the responsibility to continue to learn and evolve long after the Forrest Yoga Teacher Training course ends.

Forrest Yoga offers the 5-day Forrest Yoga Continuing Education for Teachers (FYCET) and a 9-day Advanced Teacher Training course for graduates and experienced teachers who wish to further their education with Ana and Forrest Yoga. Additionally, graduates of the Forrest Yoga Teacher Training foundation course can repeat the course at any time for an $800 discount off the tuition or elect to further develop their teaching excellence in the Forrest Yoga Mentorship Program.

Continuing your education is a crucial step to best serve your students and help build and maintain a high standard within the Forrest Yoga teaching community.
