Ana Forrest Forrest Yoga Creatrix

About Ana:
Ana Forrest has been changing people’s lives for nearly 40 years.  An internationally recognized pioneer in yoga and emotional healing, Ana created Forrest Yoga while working through her own healing from her life’s trauma and experience.  With thousands of licensed practitioners around the world, Forrest Yoga is renowned as an intensely physical, internally focused practice that emphasizes how to carry a transformative experience off the mat and into daily life.

By teaching asana, breath and an awareness of the movement of energy through the body, Ana teaches yoga from an intuitive and highly developed understanding of the human body and psyche.  With her meticulous guidance, Ana’s students cultivate an acute awareness of their own practice and life process, resulting in an exhilarating journey into self-discovery, cleansing and healing.  For Ana, this is her intent.  “In teaching Forrest Yoga, I am doing my part to mend the hoop of the people - to inspire people to clear through the stuff that hardens them and sickens their bodies so they can walk freely and lightly in a healing way, in a Beauty Way.”

Ana took her first yoga class at age 14 on a dare and became a certified instructor at age 18.  Her extensive study and clinical application of healing modalities, including homeopathic and naturopathic remedies, anatomy, reflexology, pressure point therapy, craniosacral therapies, Shiatsu, chiropractic, polarity and hands on healing, always informs her work.  In her life-long pursuit of becoming a better teacher and healer, Ana has undertaken intimate studies in Sweat Lodge, Pipe Ceremony, Vision Quest and Sundance with various Native American and African healers.

Ana is an ordained practitioner of Native American Medicine, a Reiki Master, a Certified Regression Therapist, and a graduate of Anthony Robbins Master University.   She is a Faculty Member at The University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic and sits on the Boards of F.A.R.E. Play (Foundation for Athletic Research and Education) and Earth & Sky Circle (organization for Native American Ceremony).  She is the recipient of a Los Angeles Mayoral Commendation recognizing her outstanding teaching and healing work in the community, the first time a major U.S. city bestowed such an honor on a yogi or yogini.  Ana is a regular contributor to Yoga Journal and a consultant to the USAF 48th Fighter Wing (RAF Lakenheath, UK), Exalted Warrior Foundation (Tampa, FL) and hiwecanhelp.org (Newcastle, UK).

Ana has generated extensive worldwide media coverage.  She continues to teach throughout the year around the world.  Her book, Fierce Medicine: Breakthrough Practices to Heal the Body and Ignite the Spirit, (HarperOne) was released May 2011.

Ana co-teaches and creates all of her workshops and events with her partner, Medicine Man Jose Calarco.

About Sandra:
I am a level 5 certified Forrest Yoga teacher and a Forrest Yoga guardian, registered as a Senior Teacher with the UK Yoga Alliance. I have been assisting Ana Forrest from Berlin to Cape Town since 2009. I thrive on teaching workshops, retreats and continuous education for yoga teachers where space is created for students to fully immerse themselves, have room to simply be and to connect to their spirit. I also work in-depth and in small groups with Forrest Yoga teachers that come out of the Foundation Training with the specific aim to build community, to help them to be the best they can be and to teach them to hold space for themselves and their students in a compassionate way. I am currently training at the Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Centre and offer long-term body psychotherapy and biodynamic massage in Peterborough and Huntingdon. I teach and offer therapy in German and English. My interest lies in the transformational aspects of being completely oneself and embodied, dissolving the feeling of not being good enough. When we learn to put down our armour, become vulnerable and connect to ourselves and our environment authentically, change occurs. By letting go into who we are and by trusting our intuition and the magic we all carry inside, our relationships will be transformed. In turn, open and honest relationships will have an impact on the individual. Through my extensive body psychotherapy training and through being part of a group of inspirational and courageous people during that time I have come to understand the importance of relationships.

About Heidi:
Heidi Sormaz, Ph.D., E-RYT 500, is the founder, owner and director of Fresh Yoga Studios. She has studied yoga for 20 years and taught for 15. A Forrest Yoga (FY) Guardian, Heidi currently teaches the FY 200-hr, the FY Advanced Teacher Training, teaches and designed the Fresh Yoga 200 and 300-hr Trainings, travels nationally to present workshops and trainings, has taught at Kripalu and Esalan and in the Yoga, Meditation, and Recovery Conferences and the Windhorse FY Conferences. Heidi has been featured in Yoga Journal and was selected by The Great Course to design their first course on yoga; Yoga for a Healthy Mind and Body. Heidi's first love was the study of the mind. As an academic, she experimented with unwinding cognitive habits (habitual thinking) through specific attention and meditation work. She brings these principles to her classroom, encouraging students to work with their minds as specifically as they work with their bodies. Working this way helps you understand and transform the habits that keep you stuck in your body and life. This way of working helped her move through her own challenges of dealing with severe anxiety and recovering from an eating disorder. Heidi also has extensive training in the martial art Taijiquan and the internal art Qigong. She is a senior student of Master Steven Bennett and has taught Taijiquan and Qigong at Yale University. Heidi received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale. She is an expert on the influence of arousal and attention on performance, how anxiety affects thinking and performance in pressure situations. HDR Press published her book Performing Under Pressure, and Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine published her article "Meditation can Reduce Habitual Responding." Heidi specializes in teaching Pragmatic Meditation, Forrest Yoga as Trauma-Informed yoga, Forrest Yoga for Recovery and Interdependence in Teaching and Hands-On Assisting.
