About Ana:

About Ana Forrest

Ana  Forrest is  an  inspiration  and  has  been  changing  people’s  lives  for  over 45  years. She  is  an internationally-recognized  pioneer  in  yoga  and  emotional healing. She is the Creatrix of Forrest Yoga, a mystic, visionary, philanthropist, author, and Medicine Woman. Ana crafted Forrest Yoga while working through healing from her own life’s traumas - abuse and addictions, the helplessness around the addictions, and the ongoing suffering from chronic injuries & illnesses. The process of healing herself inspired her to teach others about what really works to heal themselves physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. Forrest Yoga is a powerfully physical, internally focused practice that emphasizes how to integrate the transformative experiences from the mat into purposeful daily life. Forrest Yoga is now an exquisite collaboration between Ana and her husband Jose Calarco. He is our Musical Shaman, embodying and bringing alive ancient spiritual technologies, like Aboriginal culture through stories and song. He also teaches on the intelligence of the Vegan lifestyle and is the creative director of Forrest Yoga.

Ana Forrest and Jose Calarco came together in a “Synergistic Collision" of cosmic proportions. Integrating their worlds of Yoga, Music, Culture, Philosophy, Healing and Shamanism, they have transmuted Forrest Yoga into a sanctuary, where students learn to cultivate love and their own renewed sense of hope. Today Ana and Jose are at the forefront of the Yoga world, guiding its future and evolution. Together, Ana and Jose teach people how to use the tools of Forrest Yoga to move out numbness and connect to the rich spectrum of feeling and purpose.

“Our lovingly crafted yoga ceremonies include sacred music and invocation (led by Jose), smoke blessing, setting a healing intent, pranayama, and intelligent asana sequences. Savasana becomes a Dreamtime journey riding on Jose’s musical creations.” -Ana. The students get to develop their intuition and skill for moving energy and clearing out old emotions that are stuck in the the cell tissue. These actions are steps on the road to freedom. In the sanctuary of yoga ceremony, Forrest Yoga students hone their skills to build the life they so deeply desire. Each yoga session is an exhilarating journey into self discovery, cleansing and healing. So exciting! For Ana, this is her intent: “In teaching Forrest Yoga, I’m doing my part in Mending the Hoop of the People - to inspire the students to clear through the stuff that hardens them and sickens their bodies, so they can walk freely and lightly in a healing way, in a Beauty Way”.

Ana took her first yoga class at age 14 and became a certified instructor in 1975. Ana used yoga and Native American ceremony to save her own life. It is her intent to pass that lifesaving ability forward. Her study and clinical application of healing modalities is vast, and includes homeopathy, naturopathy, anatomy, reflexology, acupressure, craniosacral treatments, Shiatsu, regression therapy, reiki, chiropractic, polarity and hands on healing. All these inform her work and lead to her becoming a wise, intuitive teacher & healer. In her life-long love for evolving, Ana has journeyed into Indigenous Sacred ceremonies, like Sweat Lodge, Pipe Ceremony, Vision Quest, and Sundance, and has been informally adopted as a sister by Native American leader Debbie Finley Justus into her tribes. Ana has now taught and toured in over 33 countries.

Ana is at heart a woman of the wilderness. She has spent many years in the mountains and forests learning from the animals, trees, rocks, water, and the seasons. Prior to becoming a yoga teacher, Ana spent her early years training horses, dogs, cats, birds, and the occasional snake. It was a natural progression to move to teaching humans.

Since 2014, Ana has been learning from her husband Jose the ancient spiritual technology of healing by “Singing into the Bones”. She sings with Jose in their newly published songs.
“I’m happy and proud of this unfolding love through our music”. -Ana Forrest
Also in 2014, Ana became Vegan for 3 compelling reasons:
  • Ecology: “with every meal I contribute to re- balancing the environment.”
  • Compassion and love for animals: “I no longer have to kill to live. I refuse to support the meat and dairy industry which tortures and murders animals.”
  • Building her personal health and luminosity: “as a Vegan, my suffering and the animal’s suffering (that I ingested) is slowly purging from my cell tissue. This leaves more room for the brilliance of my Spirit”.

Ana is a minister at Earth and Sky, an organization dedicated to teaching Native American ceremony, principles & art. Ana is a Certified Regression Therapist, and a graduate of Anthony Robbins Mastery University.  She is a Faculty Member at The University of Bridgeport College of Chiropractic and sits on the Board of F.A.R.E. Play (Foundation for Athletic Research and Education). Ana is also a regular contributor to the Huffington Post, Elephant Journal, Origin Magazine, Mantra Yoga and Health Magazine, and Yoga Journal Magazine.

“I’m proud & honored to work with the US military.” Ana has worked with fighter pilots, ground crew, soldiers, and the Explosive Ordinance Disposal (“bomb squad”), at the US base in Lakenheath, England. In the US, she has taught war veterans in VA hospitals in Florida and Washington DC. She has received a medal of gratitude for her work with the wounded warriors of the Warrior Transition Battalion, and a medal of excellence for her work with veterans in Fort Carson, Colorado. Ana is a consultant to the United States Air Force 48th Fighter Wing, as well as to the Exalted Warrior Foundation.

Ana is the recipient of a Los Angeles Mayoral Commendation recognizing her outstanding teaching and healing work in the community, the first time a major U.S. city bestowed such an honor on a yogi or yogini.

Ana is the author of  Fierce Medicine, the book that represents the spiritual legacy from her earlier years, and contains the treasures that saved her life.  Released in May of 2011, Fierce Medicine is an extension of Forrest Yoga, and teaches you how to design your life in a way that makes you proud to live it.

Ana and Jose have a saying: “Authenticity in Spirituality can be gauged by our conduct in everyday life”. With their dedication to global healing, the couple co-creates a magical and safe arena for transformation. To learn from Ana & Jose means to dive into a transformational treasure chest. They continue to teach throughout the year around the world. Discover the sacred potency of JoseAna’s life’s work at a Forrest Yoga event by clicking here.

About Ann:
My teaching style has developed over 20 years and been influenced by some outstanding teachers. Ana Forrest and the Forrest Yoga system has been the most inspiring and fulfilling for me in every aspect of my life. During the first class I took with her I knew my yoga practice was about to get up-leveled, rinsed out and re-examined in many ways. The dedicated focus on the pillars of Forrest Yoga: breath, strength, integrity and spirit have helped me build trust in myself and confidence through clarity. Instead of simply believing in yoga, Forrest Yoga has taught me to feel and trust my own experience as the truth. In this way I have grown at my own pace and learned from my mistakes and my gifts. Everyday Forrest Yoga teaches me the importance of breath, how to skillfully breath and feel my body's ability to change and heal. I have felt space and sparkle glowing from inside me and I can command a position on my mat and in my life. I am grateful for Forrest Yoga and all it's teachings and I am grateful for my students and my breath. I am one of the founding Forrest Yoga Guardian (Mentor) teachers and have been training Forrest Yoga teachers since 2007.

About Sita:
Sita first came to yoga about 18 years ago while trying to balance the rigors of a career in software and parenthood. When she made a commitment to a daily practice, she began to see the value of yoga practice in her everyday life. In addition to gaining physical strength and health, yoga helped her deal with the stresses of a hectic life and helped her gain a new perspective on the importance of being present and aware for whatever life brings. She sees a lot of value in what Forrest yoga has done for the way she lives her life - yoga has taught her to recognize and over time change deeply set patterns that are part of one's upbringing and personality. Yoga has also taught her to recognize and stalk fears that one encounters on a daily basis and thus moving towards living in a kind of freedom that she has never known before. Sita has been teaching yoga since Fall 2008 and deeply enjoys imparting her love for yoga. Students in Sita’s classes can expect a well-rounded asana practice which focuses on strength, flexibility and balance while building a deep connection to the breath. Her classes are both challenging and compassionate, making room for students to work at their own level. More than anything, Sita assists her students in connecting to a sense of inner well-being and the stillness of mind that can be cultivated through the regular practice of yoga. Sita has been assisting Ana at various locations around Europe for workshops, Foundation training and Advanced trainings - and was invited to become Guardian-in-Training in Jan 2016.

About Sandra:
I am a level 5 certified Forrest Yoga teacher and a Forrest Yoga guardian, registered as a Senior Teacher with the UK Yoga Alliance. I have been assisting Ana Forrest from Berlin to Cape Town since 2009. I thrive on teaching workshops, retreats and continuous education for yoga teachers where space is created for students to fully immerse themselves, have room to simply be and to connect to their spirit. I also work in-depth and in small groups with Forrest Yoga teachers that come out of the Foundation Training with the specific aim to build community, to help them to be the best they can be and to teach them to hold space for themselves and their students in a compassionate way. I am currently training at the Cambridge Body Psychotherapy Centre and offer long-term body psychotherapy and biodynamic massage in Peterborough and Huntingdon. I teach and offer therapy in German and English. My interest lies in the transformational aspects of being completely oneself and embodied, dissolving the feeling of not being good enough. When we learn to put down our armour, become vulnerable and connect to ourselves and our environment authentically, change occurs. By letting go into who we are and by trusting our intuition and the magic we all carry inside, our relationships will be transformed. In turn, open and honest relationships will have an impact on the individual. Through my extensive body psychotherapy training and through being part of a group of inspirational and courageous people during that time I have come to understand the importance of relationships.

Alexandra is a Forrest Yoga Guardian based in Vienna, Austria. She is recognized as an International Yoga Alliance E-RYT500 certified yoga teacher and Continuing Education Provider. From her first contact with Ana Forrest more than 10 years ago, she has been following her calling as one of the first few certified FY teachers in Europe to spread this unique yoga style. She has been teaching compassionately at her studio bYOGA Wien in Vienna and also runs Forrest Yoga workshops and retreats both in Austria and abroad. She assisted and lead-assisted Ana Forrest in various Workshops around Europe, the Foundation Teacher Training in Berlin and also lead-assisted the Foundation Training in Calgary. Besides her various studies in human energetics to broaden her expertise, she is a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner. This method is a body-oriented approach to the resolving of trauma & other stress disorders, which matches wonderfully with the Forrest Yoga attempt. Her intention is to give her students the best possible experience in class, which means finding balance between challenging them and keeping them safe, finding their own potential. Her teaching is a magical and grounding experience and right on the spot. You can expect clear and precise directions and hands-on-assists, to feel more aligned and more at home in the body. She shares a positive attitude and optimism and would name herself a very resourceful person. Besides that, she loves her daily Forrest Yoga practice, drumming and ballroom dancing with her husband, the sun, the stars and the moon, the sea and hiking in the beautiful mountains of Austria. She lives and loves in the city center of Vienna. Find her Studio bYOGA Wien also on FB and Instagram!

About Heidi:
Heidi Sormaz, Ph.D., E-RYT 500, is the founder, owner and director of Fresh Yoga Studios. She has studied yoga for 20 years and taught for 15. A Forrest Yoga (FY) Guardian, Heidi currently teaches the FY 200-hr, the FY Advanced Teacher Training, teaches and designed the Fresh Yoga 200 and 300-hr Trainings, travels nationally to present workshops and trainings, has taught at Kripalu and Esalan and in the Yoga, Meditation, and Recovery Conferences and the Windhorse FY Conferences. Heidi has been featured in Yoga Journal and was selected by The Great Course to design their first course on yoga; Yoga for a Healthy Mind and Body. Heidi's first love was the study of the mind. As an academic, she experimented with unwinding cognitive habits (habitual thinking) through specific attention and meditation work. She brings these principles to her classroom, encouraging students to work with their minds as specifically as they work with their bodies. Working this way helps you understand and transform the habits that keep you stuck in your body and life. This way of working helped her move through her own challenges of dealing with severe anxiety and recovering from an eating disorder. Heidi also has extensive training in the martial art Taijiquan and the internal art Qigong. She is a senior student of Master Steven Bennett and has taught Taijiquan and Qigong at Yale University. Heidi received her Ph.D. in Psychology from Yale. She is an expert on the influence of arousal and attention on performance, how anxiety affects thinking and performance in pressure situations. HDR Press published her book Performing Under Pressure, and Alternative Therapies in Health and Medicine published her article "Meditation can Reduce Habitual Responding." Heidi specializes in teaching Pragmatic Meditation, Forrest Yoga as Trauma-Informed yoga, Forrest Yoga for Recovery and Interdependence in Teaching and Hands-On Assisting.

About Darin:
Darin is a Forrest Yoga Guardian, sports enthusiast, and owner of Dragon's Breath Yoga in Washington, DC. Darin first began practicing yoga to speed athletic recovery. After time he began to see the mental and emotional benefits a regular practice has. This knowledge was enhanced more after taking his first Forrest Yoga classes. He completed his first 200-hour Vinyasa training in 2013. In September 2014, he finished the Forrest Yoga training with his teacher, Ana Forrest (forrestyoga.com). Darin has assisted Ana during the Foundation Trainings in Chicago (2015) and Peterborough (2016), Berlin (2017), and Ft Worth (2018). Darin’s view as a teacher is to embrace the “bad yogi” in each of us; specifically we are none perfect but with practice, we walk our path – both on and off the mat. He teaches that we are all perfectly imperfect and it’s our intention that sets the course. As a Guardian, he loves sharing his experience with the magick that is Forrest Yoga. You can find out more information about Darin on his website: badyogidc.com or by following him on Twitter/Instagram as @darin_d_yoga and on Facebook: Bad Yogi DC.
