Taught by Ana Forrest and assisted by a Forrest Yoga Guardian and other experienced Forrest Yoga Teachers, the 22-day intensives and teacher training follow a streamlined curriculum that has been developed over the course of Ana's nearly 40 years teaching experience to offer you a solid foundation in the art of teaching Forrest Yoga® and a transformational experience fostering personal and professional growth and promoting powerful insights that provide deeper integration with your true authentic self.
Meditation and Intensives
Each day starts off with a ceremony involving chanting, drumming and meditation to set the intent for the day and create the space for healing and connection to your Spirit, followed by a 2-hour intensive that will create a heightened sense of physical, emotional and spiritual awareness while challenging every muscle and cell in your body. Through a carefully sequenced Forrest Yoga asanas, Ana will open you to amazing depths and feelings of awareness. You will leave feeling cleansed, refreshed and alive. The intensives are a sanctuary where you can feel safe to open up, work through issues that may arise and go beyond your perceived limitations. You will learn about yourself and feel what it is like to have freedom in your own body and mind. The intensives are sure to bring each trainee to new levels within their yoga practice. Injuries and special needs are addressed so that each trainee experiences these classes as part of his or her own healing practice.
The afternoon sessions encompasses a five to six hour sessions of training and instruction. Working from a comprehensive manual of about 400 pages, distilled from Ana's nearly 40 years of experience, trainees begin practice teaching on the first day - initially in small groups, eventually teaching beginning-level yoga students during the "Introduction to Forrest Yoga" workshop. Trainees will hone their skills through a variety of exercises designed to help them to master the essential elements of teaching, including:
"Introduction to Forrest Yoga" Workshop
seeing and understanding physical structure and energy
use of safe and effective hands-on adjustments
communication by verbal and non-verbal means
effective use of class dialogue and tone of voice
continued development of a more engaging presence and self-awareness in your class
Two weekend workshops titled, Introduction to Forrest Yoga, are offered to the public. Trainees team-teach these workshops, rotating between teaching class, assisting and adjusting under Ana's supervision. These workshops are videotaped for review. This hands-on experience leads to informative feedback for trainees as they develop their teaching style and skills, regardless of their teaching experience.
Functional Anatomy for Yoga Teachers
Taught by Somatic Educator and Healer, Ellen Heed, this 20 hour functional anatomy course is specifically designed for yoga teachers. It is highly experiential, combining anatomical instruction with an emphasis on sharpening each teacher's perceptual skills to better assess the needs of their students in the environment of a yoga class.
The art of assessment is a life-long process by which a yoga teacher gains mastery and depth as an instructor. Trainees will learn some of the short-cuts to assessment in this fun and highly informative class about the interrelationship of the Rule of Four: Biomechanics, Biochemistry, Scar Tissue, and Emotional Blockage. These four elements define the healing process for us and for our students. As yoga teachers, we are in a unique position to streamline that healing process by learning to perceive each aspect of the Rule of Four. This is our governing principle as we learn the anatomy of the human structure and tie it together with practical information to speed healing when possible and explain why when it is not appropriate to hurry it.
In this course, trainees will learn to perceive:
How our Emotional Blockage expresses itself as posture and postural deviation.
How our Scar Tissue affects flexibility, even at a distance from an injury.
How genetics influences our Biomechanics and how to tell when it doesn't.
How our Biochemistry (for better of for worse) can determine the pleasure of our practice.
This course is open to yoga practitioners (of all disciplines) not enrolled in this Teacher Training.

This awareness will allow you to teach from truths that are discovered rather than from a dogma. Teaching authentically is more effective and compelling for both you and your students.
Teaching through discovery
Through a tightly woven circle of teaching modalities including lecture, videotaping, group circles, practice teaching and partner work you, will participate in a wide variety of teaching activities where learning is achieved through discovery of experiential knowledge. You will learn principles of alignment, class sequencing, working with injuries and energy, modifying yoga postures to address an individual's needs and teaching private, beginning and intermediate classes. There is opportunity to teach beginning level students, see and diagnose injuries and energy as well as proper use of touch and adjustment to maximize your teaching impact.
